Helen’s ‘Jobs for the Girls’ Scheme Flourishes
Wednesday 4th Apr 2001 Richard Prebble Media Release -- Other
In response to media requests for his reaction to the appointment of a female Governor-General, ACT Leader Richard
Prebble noted that the new Chief Human Rights Commissioner is also a woman and in fact the Government hasn’t appointed
any top job to a man.
“I do believe that Helen Clark is discriminating on the basis of gender. It is my view that all discrimination is wrong.
“I wish to make it clear I’m not criticising the new Governor-General. I think Dame Sylvia Cartwright will make a good
Governor-General. But I am critical of the appointment of Rosslyn Noonan as Chief Human Rights Commissioner. She is not
qualified for the job. She is a militant left-wing trade unionist. This is just jobs for the girls – which is just as
bad as jobs for the boys.
“The ACT women MPs believe there is one good aspect to this monopoly of female appointments – we can abolish the
Ministry of Women’s Affairs,” Hon Richard Prebble said.
