Peters Challenges Clark And Wilson To Front Up To Tauranga Electorate Over Election Promise
Speaking from his Tauranga Electorate, the Rt Hon Winston Peters, Leader of New Zealand First and Member of Parliament
for Tauranga, today challenged Prime Minister Helen Clark and Margaret Wilson to use the Prime Minister’s visit to
Tauranga today as an opportunity to explain to the Tauranga people why Labour is stalling on one of its key election
promises.
“That is – their promise to introduce urgent anti party hopping legislation. Both Helen Clark and Margaret Wilson
repeated this promise in campaign speech after campaign speech – and make no mistake it won them significant votes at
the expense of their opponents – especially here in Tauranga,” said Mr Peters.
Mr Peters said that if the Labour led government, and its Prime Minister, were really going to pride themselves on
setting new standards of accountability in New Zealand Politics the people of Tauranga – and New Zealand – have a right
to question why Labour is stalling from keeping this important commitment.
