Give us Back our Car Keys, Keith
Thursday 8th Mar 2001 Penny Webster Media Release -- Other
Reactionary Green MP Keith Locke is at best confused, and at worst an ideological dupe, ACT Transport Spokesman Penny Webster said today.
"Keith is protesting outside the ‘Case for Roads’ Seminar in Auckland.
"If that is all he can bring to this important debate, then he should leave Auckland’s transport problems to brighter people who actually know what they are talking about.
"Keith and his fellow protesters refuse to accept the individual’s choice to use their car.
"Do the young people who support the Greens realise they will have to hand in their car keys for Keith to lock up?
"If a rail system were as appealing as Keith would have us believe, then investors would be simply falling over each other to pour money into it.
"Whether Keith approves or not, New Zealanders like their cars - and here, they have the choice to like their cars. A transport solution must recognise this fact.
"It is time for Keith to wake up, grow up, and move on," Mrs Webster said.
