Where’s The Charter, Steve?

Published: Fri 23 Feb 2001 01:58 PM
Steve Maharey says he will spend the next few weeks "identifying" key policy issues in his new broadcasting portfolio.
ACT Broadcasting spokesman Penny Webster saved the Minister time today by telling him exactly what is required.
"First, Mr Maharey needs to fix the chaos that the inept Marian Hobbs caused,” said Mrs Webster.
"When cleaning out Hobbs’ desk, Mr Maharey should throw out the TVNZ Charter.
"He should also drop forced local content. We are in a commercial environment, and TVNZ must stay competitive.
"Ideally, the Government should sell TVNZ.
"Mr Maharey has a great opportunity to be more sensible, instead of following Ms Hobbs’ politically correct ideology", Penny Webster said.
