Commerce Minister Paul Swain today announced three new appointments to the Commerce Commission.
Peter Taylor, of Wellington has been appointed as a member of the Commission for a period of five years. Donal Curtin,
of Auckland, and Donald Gilling, of Wellington, have been appointed as associate members to the Commission for a period
of three years.
Peter Taylor has over 30 years business management and restructuring experience and is qualified as a chartered
accountant. He has worked at board level in large organisations, including terms as managing partner of the Wellington
office and member of the National Board of Ernst & Young from which Partnership he retired in 1998. Since then Mr Taylor has undertaken a number of directorships and is a
self-employed consultant. He was seconded to the Crown Company Monitoring and Advisory Unit over the period June 1994 to
October 1996, as the Unit’s Chief Executive.
Donal Curtin has a strong economics background, with both consulting and advisory experience. He has professional
economics qualifications and extensive experience in applying that knowledge to commercial practice. Mr Curtin has have
a long term association with the Bank of New Zealand where he has held various position including Chief International
Economist, Head of Financial Institutions and Chief Economist. In 1999, he established Economics New Zealand Ltd, a
consulting business specialising in providing insight into New Zealand financial markets.
Donald Gilling has worked extensively in the academic sector culminating in the position of Professor of Accounting and
Finance at the University of Waikato. At present, Dr Gilling is the Managing Director of Economic and Social Research
Associates Limited. He has been involved in the development and refinement of policy, as well as in the development of
performance measures to assess the impact of public policy both on the government and consumers.
