ACT MPs to Cross Picket Line
Saturday 17th Feb 2001 Richard Prebble Media Release -- Economy
ACT Leader Richard Prebble and ACT MP Owen Jennings said today that they were going to Nelson on Sunday to give support to the right of Mainland Stevedores’ employees to work on the Nelson Port.
"It is unacceptable for the Waterfront Workers Union to claim that New Zealanders are not free to work anywhere in the country."
"The Waterfront Workers Union is just trying to get a union monopoly on the wharves and take us back to the bad old days."
"Their dispute is potentially more serious that the vets dispute."
"The Waterfront Union’s tactics are designed to cause civil unrest, and thus give the government an excuse to regulate the ports."
"The Minister of Labour is siding with the Waterfront Union. ACT is on the side of Kiwis' right to work."
