New Zealand First Law and Order spokesman, Ron Mark, today broke his silence over the rumour circulating among Police
that current Fire Service Acting Chief Executive Alison Timms is about to be appointed as one of two new Deputy
Commissioners of Police.
“I hope this rumour, should it become fact, is not a case of jobs for the girls,” said Mr Mark.
“Alison Timms has been around the State sector for many years and has become known for her role as administrative action
person for Dame Margaret Bazely first within Social Welfare and more recently the Fire Service,” he said.
“That her husband, Tony Timms is the political advisor to Prime Minister Helen Clark may well have nothing to do with
her appointment to such a senior role in the Police, but that coupled with her less than outstandingly successful foray
into the difficulties of the Fire Service may not bode well for a cash strapped Police service,” Mr Mark concluded.
