Hobbs Ducks And Weaves To Avoid Real TVNZ Issue

Published: Fri 2 Feb 2001 03:45 PM
"Marian Hobbs' evasive and misleading conduct over revelations about the cost of implementing her Charter for TVNZ was a shameful display of behaviour," National's Murray McCully said today.
"First Hobbs declared the TVNZ Report was too commercially sensitive to even discuss. Then she issued a statement saying my revelations were 'ludicrous'. Then she held a stand-up interview acknowledging my figures were in fact correctly quoted from the report.
"Now she is trying to create the impression that TVNZ has produced an updated set of figures, an impression which, according to my research, is absolutely false.
"Marian Hobbs has suppressed the TVNZ Report for four months, then tried to weasel her way out of a corner when I revealed the warnings it sounds. She has now clearly branded herself as a Minister the public cannot trust," Mr McCully concluded.
