Govt Should Release Report on People’s Bank
Tuesday 30th Jan 2001 Ken Shirley Media Release -- Governance & Constitution
ACT New Zealand Acting Leader Ken Shirley is calling on the Prime Minister to release the Cameron Report evaluating the merits or otherwise of the People’s Bank.
“This report was commissioned following Cabinet’s determination to have an independent review of the proposal promoted by the Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton in conjunction with Postbank.
“It is hard working New Zealanders who will be funding this bank through their taxes and if the Government is serious about judging the proposal on its merits then they will release the report, together with the various assumptions associated with the independent evaluation exercise.
“If the Government refuses to release the report then clearly they are only interested in making a political decision to accommodate and appease Jim Anderton and the Alliance Coalition partner against the independent advice of the Cameron Report.
“I am seeking a copy of this report under the Official Information Act in the belief that all New Zealanders are stakeholders in this proposal and have a fundamental right to know the risks involved,” concluded Ken Shirley.
