Tuesday 30th Jan 2001 Richard Prebble Media Release -- Other
Mike Lorigan the Press Secretary to ACT Leader Hon Richard Prebble and editor of Mr Prebble’s weekly ‘Letter from Wellington’ was tragically killed in an aeroplane crash near Canberra on the weekend.
“Mike joined the ACT parliamentary team in 1999 first as a volunteer, then as an intern, and then in the research unit. Mike had a gift for words, and after obtaining his Diploma in Journalism later in 1999 was promoted to the ACT press team,” Mr Prebble said.
“He took on the task of being my press secretary temporarily after the last election and did such a good job he was given a permanent appointment, making him the youngest press secretary to any party leader. He also took on the task of editing the ‘Letter from Wellington’ and under his editorship the paper’s readership has rocketed and there has never been a week where the circulation hasn’t increased, a boast many editors would like to make.
“Mike was a popular and likeable member of the staff and the ACT parliamentary team would like to extend their deepest sympathy to his family,” Hon Richard Prebble said.
