Tairawhiti Development Taskforce report

There will be a major announcement in Wairoa and Gisborne, on the Tairawhiti Development Taskforce.
First announcement
9.30 am Opening of Community Hub in Wairoa,
Corner of Queen and Paul Streets.
There will be two public meetings and the full announcements at:
10.30 am - Wairoa Community Centre, Marine Parade, Wairoa; and
02.30 pm - Army Hall Cnr Fitzherbert & Stout Streets, Gisborne
At these meetings:
The Taskforce report will be released, containing plans and proposals for the future
The Taskforce will be handed over to the local Mayors to chair.
The Taskforce has provided a model and approach that will now be applied to other regions such as Northland, Wanganui
and Eastern Bay of Plenty.
The Tairawhiti Development Taskforce has been meeting since May 2000. The Mayors of Wairoa and Gisborne invited Jim
Anderton, Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Parekura Horomia and Janet Mackey MP to help improve prospects for jobs and
businesses in the Tairawhiti region.
The Taskforce is made up of local people, runanga, agencies and government, to bring a “whole of government” approach
to the development and initiation of a sustainable development programme on the East Coast.
There have been eleven local reference groups in the taskforce meeting and looking at plans for issues such as
education and training, Maori land, forestry and health and social services.
