Dalziel The Minister Of Twisting The Truth
"Immigration Minister Lianne Dalziel has today plumbed new depths in deliberately twisting the meaning of words," National's Marie Hasler said today.
"In an embarrassing display of pedantry Ms Dalziel argued in Parliament that saying her officials had 'misled' her and 'not told the truth' to her could not in any way shape or form be equated with suggesting they had 'lied' to her.
"Ms Dalziel today avoided questioning on the reliability of her statements by identifying a hitherto unknown distinction between telling untruths and lying.
"This example of playing with words comes hot on the heels of the Prime Minister insisting that her 'edict' that the word Holocaust 'should never again be used' in a New Zealand context by her Ministers did not equate to a 'ban'.
"The public is sick to death of Labour politicians using weasel words and nitpicking arguments, and so am I.
"This shameless use of pedantic definitions must cease immediately," Ms Hasler said.
