IRD Commissioner John Perham Signals New Era
Thursday 16th Nov 2000 Rodney Hide Media Release -- Economy
ACT Finance spokesman Rodney Hide said today that all taxpayers would be heartened by Inland Revenue Commissioner John Perham’s apology to tax victims Jan and Murray Willis.
“I have been the most savage critic of the IRD’s culture and operation because of the Willis case and others like it. I want to be among the first to congratulate John Perham for acknowledging mistakes and apologising for them.
“That’s what we would expect from our public service.
“The task for John Perham is to ensure that his human approach to tax collection filters right through the Inland Revenue Department.
“There are other cases just as bad as the Willis’s that need attending to. We also need to ensure that the IRD put in place a proper dispute process that such a mauling is never handed out to another taxpayer,“ Rodney Hide said.
