Changes to Ministerial Portfolios Announced
A reshuffle of ministerial portfolios has seen the Hon. George Hawkins take over as Minister of Internal Affairs.
Prime Minister Rt Hon. Helen Clark made the announcement at midday today.
The Internal Affairs portfolio is added to Mr Hawkins' responsibilities as Minister of Police, Minister of Civil Defence and Minister for Ethnic Affairs.
Internal Affairs responsibilities include: the Fire Service Commission, New Zealand Citizenship, passports, Gaming New Zealand, Community Development, the New Zealand Flag, the National Anthem, and Daylight Saving.
"The Internal Affairs portfolio is an interesting and varied one that covers many important issues involving organisations and communities throughout the country," George Hawkins said.
