Second Round Of Enterprise Awards Scheme
Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton said he was finding many examples of Kiwi ingenuity and the new Kiwi invention
CrazyCatch was clearly one. This new sports game has been awarded an Enterprise Award of $10,000 in the second round of
the Enterprise Awards Scheme, so that its inventors can manufacture the game and develop markets.
“These grants and the whole jobs machine have been created by this Government to foster the 'Kiwis-can-do attitude’ and
get this country working," said Deputy Prime Minister, Jim Anderton.
“CrazyCatch has been invented by a sports mad New Zealand couple in their backyard after their three sons kept breaking
windows, and by getting an Enterprise Award this product can be manufactured and sold,” said Jim Anderton.
CrazyCatch was invented by Andrew and Louise Sinclair of Auckland, who applied for a grant through the Industry New
Zealand Enterprise Award Scheme earlier this year. Already cricket coaches and players are using the game, and Dayle
Hadlee of NZ Cricket and Kaushik Patel of Auckland Cricket have looked at CrazyCatch and are supportive.
There were seventeen grants issued in this the second Enterprise Awards Scheme round by Industry New Zealand, and the
results of the next round will be announced in late November/early December.
The Enterprise Awards Scheme exists so that small businesses and entrepreneurs can apply for 50% of the total costs of a
project, and the scheme will fund up to $10,000 in any one year.
The first round of 22 Enterprise Award winners was announced in September 2000, grants ranged in value from $800 to
$10,000.
Auckland
Andrew and Louise Sinclair, Pukekohe, (0508 272 992) have developed Crazy Catch™ sport project and have been
awarded $10,000 to assist with manufacture and marketing.
Habipax Industries Ltd, Greenmount, Warwick Grieve (09 274 5309) manufactures tapes and cords and has been
awarded $7,553) for marketing electric fence tape products.
Teknatool International Ltd, West Harbour, Margaret and Roger Latimer (09 837 6900) have been awarded $4,160 to
assist with access to new overseas markets for their craft woodworking machines and accessories.
Canterbury
Uni-Go (NZ) Ltd, $4,500 - motorcycle cargo trailers.
IMtechno Ltd, Christchurch, manufactures cameras - $4,938.
Midlands Seed Ltd, Ashburton, grain seed merchant - $5,749 to assist with a new range of seeds.
Ceemee Signs International Ltd, Christchurch, Brian Chapman (03 354 1258) markets wind driven advertising signs
and has been awarded $4,700 to assist to access new overseas markets.
Annie Graham Costume and Clothing has been awarded $979 to investigate the development of nurserywear.
Otago
Ellis Fibre Ltd, Dunedin, non-woven products - $10,000.
The Fun Factory, Dunedin, baby bedding and accessories - $3,000 towards business planning.
Nelson Bays
Parkerfield Dairy is a boutique cheesemaker and has been awarded $720 towards a cheese making machine.
Paul Hay and Belinda Wallace, $10,000 tourism activity.
Central North Island
Caldow Builders Ltd, Foxton, - $5,722 development of transportable cottages.
Tim Young Engineering, Hunterville, agricultural engineering services - $6,238 development of a multi-purpose
self-supporting angle post.
Masterweave Textiles Ltd, Masterton, Lindsay Cairns (06 378 8891) manufactures woollen products and has been
awarded $4,663 towards the manufacture of mohair rugs. This is a 2nd application for this project; the first award was
for $2,500.
Bay of Plenty
Tankman Ltd, Virginia Kiddey, Whakatane, (07 307 0948 provide domestic and industrial liquid waste collection,
process and disposal. An awarded of $4,998 has been made to develop a mobile sludge barge.
Wellington
Impian Technologies Ltd develop infusion pumps and have been awarded $10,000 to assist with national marketing
and distribution of miniature infusion pumps.
