Front-Up With The Answers, Jim

Published: Wed 1 Nov 2000 03:30 PM
“Jim Anderton should front-up to local communities and tell them how much the so-called Kiwi-banks are going to cost them,” Northland MP John Carter said today.
“Jim Anderton seems to have had a rush of blood to the head today complaining about MPs and the Kiwi Bank.
“People in my electorate have questions about the bank and all they want are answers, but Jim Anderton won’t face up to the questions.
“We want to know what price small communities will pay for having a so-called Kiwi Banks and whether it is practical to have banks in small towns with no secure facilities at PostShops.
“Many small towns only have a Post Shop franchise operated out of a business such as the local grocery or video store.
“There are no secure facilities in those shops to run a bank. If Jim believes they could be upgraded to bank status, he’s talking about a bare minimum of secure facilities and one or two staff in communities throughout New Zealand. We’re talking about an infrastructure costing millions of dollars.
“Can Jim Anderton inform people of towns like Mangonui who will pay for the cost of establishing a Kiwi Bank.
“These are simple questions – why won’t Jim Anderton just answer them?”
