Crown apology for incidents at Mangaroa
Claims by four prison inmates relating to incidents that occurred at Mangaroa Prison, Hawkes Bay in 1991 and 1993 filed against the Attorney-General and others have been settled.
The Crown regrets the actions which gave rise to the claims.
Significant changes have since been implemented (including those arising from recommendations made by the 1993 Ministerial Inquiry) to ensure that what occurred at Mangaroa will not, and cannot, happen again.
