Bunkle Delighted With Change
New Associate Conservation Minister Phillida Bunkle said today that she is delighted with her new delegation.
From today, Phillida Bunkle will take on a new role as Associate Minister of Conservation, and relinquishes her position as Associate Minister of Women's Affairs.
The change has been made to assist Conservation Minister Sandra Lee who is expected to have a stronger role as Associate Minister of Maori Affairs to new cabinet Minister Parekura Horomia.
"I am delighted that this change allows me to consolidate my energies and to concentrate on sustainable development. I'm excited by the opportunity to pool this conservation portfolio with my existing role as Associate Environment Minister," Phillida Bunkle said.
However, inheriting Associate Conservation responsibilities, which she has already done outside official delegation, will add substantially to the workload of an already busy Minister.
"While my new expanded workload will make it impossible to continue with a formal delegation in Women's Affairs, my long-standing personal commitment to women and advocacy of women's issues will continue undiminished."
"This is a positive and sensible move that will help reinforce this Labour-Alliance government's commitment to achieving growth that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable."
