Minister of Corrections, Matt Robson will announce an increase in youth units across New Zealand while visiting the
Hawkes Bay Regional Prison Youth Unit tomorrow.
"Keeping young offenders separate from hardened adult criminals, and using programs targeted specifically at adolescent
offenders is the key to reducing re-offending," says Matt Robson.
The Hawkes Bay youth unit was the first of its kind in New Zealand. It has been in operation for eight months. Matt
Robson opened the second unit at Waikeria prison in June of this year.
