Opposition Spokesperson on Culture and Heritage Simon Upton says the Review Team's report on Te Papa largely vindicates
the Museum's record since opening in 1998.
"The report is a constructive one which confirms that Te Papa has achieved the goals it was set.
"Its detailed understanding of the audience it is trying to reach is singled out for special praise being described as
comparing 'more than favourably with the very best of museum practice world-wide'.
'The principle area of weakness identified by the review - the presentation of the National Art Collection - is likely
to be widely echoed. This was always Te Papa's major problem and must now be tackled in earnest."
Mr Upton said he supported the appointment of Dr Roderick Deane as the museum's new chairman and was confident that Te
Papa would now get on with building on the achievements recorded in the Review Team's report.
