Courierpost Wins Computerworld Excellence Award

Published: Tue 27 Jun 2000 11:31 AM
On Friday night CourierPost was announced as winner of the Computerworld Excellence Award for “Overall Excellence in the use of Information Technology”.
The Award recognises CourierPost’s achievements in developing information technology solutions to meet their customers’ specific freight management needs. CourierPost Marketing and IT teams worked together to design a set of “online” courier solutions to provide these value-added services.
One of these solutions was the upgrade of CourierPost call centre technology to enable Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) and implementation of an Interactive Voice Response System (IVR) which provides a range of services to customers without the need for an operator.
The company also developed a Mobile Communications Platform which offers close to real-time communication with CourierPost’s fleet of around 600 vehicles. It involves a scanner which is carried by couriers and has a custom designed application which allows information to be recorded and traced, such as the signature of the person receiving the courier item on a touch sensitive screen.
The Award also includes a PC application developed by CourierPost through which customers generate CourierPost tickets on demand. The application uses standard Internet communications via the Electronic Commerce Switch to communicate with CourierPost host systems. A communications link sends ticket rating and tracking information to the customers’ PC application and the PC then sends a manifest of tickets produced to the CourierPost host systems.
In 1996 CourierPost, a division of New Zealand Post, set itself the goal of becoming the number one courier company in New Zealand by 2000. In only three years this goal was achieved through its investment in technology which added value to the basic courier service offered to customers. Today CourierPost remains number one through market share.
