Greens Ignore Election Promise To Public

The Greens supported a land sale to foreign owners today, despite its direct contradiction of their election promises,
said ACT Agriculture spokesman Gerry Eckhoff.
Green MP Ian Ewen-Street today congratulated Nikken Foods Ltd, a large Japanese health food company, on their purchase
of a South Island farm and old school. The Greens explicitly stated foreign land sales were to be stopped in their
election manifesto.
“Now the Greens are in power they have forgotten their election promise to the public, though it may be attributable to
a side effect of their other political platform.
In the Evening Post (13/11/99) the Greens promised to “stop land sales to foreigners, restrict foreign investment in
other assets” and in the Dominion (17/11/99) tighter, “controls on foreign investment, including preventing land sales
to foreigners.”
“It would seem the Greens are more interested in newspaper columns than principled politics. The public have witnessed
increasingly outrageous GE claims, a non-transparent allocation of Budget money to political friends and now an outright
contradiction of an election promise.
“While ACT policies are not always the most politically popular, we are always a party of principle.
“The Greens can not be considered a serious political party after their continual policy flip flops,” said Gerry
Eckhoff.
