Waimakariri MP delighted with Police commitment to Kaiapoi Station
Waimakariri Labour MP Clayton Cosgrove is delighted the Police have allocated more funding to the redevelopment of the
Kaiapoi Police Station and says it reflects the Government’s commitment to policing.
“It is going to great to see the Police working in better conditions than the crooks,” Mr Cosgrove said.
It was announced today that work on the Kaiapoi Police Station will be completed within the next twelve to eighteen
months. The original expenditure figure of approximately $150,000, which was announced in February after a visit by the
Police Minister Hon George Hawkins, has been substantially increased.
“This increased funding will mean the people of Kaiapoi will get more than just a refurbished station as first promised,
they will effectively have a new police station,” Mr Cosgrove said.
Mr Cosgrove paid tribute to the effort the Minister of Police has put into this project.
“George Hawkins has shown that this Government is prepared to put resources into provincial policing and not neglect
them the same way the previous government did,” he said.
“There has not been a week go by since I have been in Government that I have not raised this issue with the Minister of
Police. I am pleased the lobbying I did before and after the election on behalf of the Kaiapoi Police team and the local
community has paid off and I am delighted that I am able to deliver on a commitment I made during the election
campaign,” Mr Cosgrove said.
Mr Cosgrove also noted that the decision was Rob Robinson’s first as newly appointed Police Commissioner.
“I congratulate the Commissioner on his commitment to his staff and I am look forward to joining the Kaiapoi Police on
Friday afternoon for a drink to celebrate this success, ” Mr Cosgrove said.
