ACT’s Stand On Electricity Lines Companies Vindicated
ACT’s strong opposition to the regulated price control of electricity lines companies has been totally vindicated by the ‘extensive and expensive’ report of the Government’s inquiry into electricity.
ACT Deputy Leader Ken Shirley today said that when National was pushing the electricity reforms through the last Parliament, ACT was the only Party to oppose National’s regulatory price control proposals. “Labour’s attacks on National’s proposals were extreme calling them too cautious and timid,” he said.
Ken Shirley said that having examined the issue in depth the Caygill Committee recommended extreme caution with any price control initiatives highlighting their disruptive and distortionary aspects.
“The fear now is that the poor job National made of the electricity reforms is to be made worse by Labour who are promising to introduce more legislation to regulate the electricity industry,” said Ken Shirley.
