New Zealand First is suggesting major changes to the Employment Relations Bill to help make it work better for both
employers and employees.
A document sent to the Government last week by Industrial Relations spokesman Peter Brown outlines his Party’s concerns,
and he is seeking a meeting with Labour Minister, Hon Margaret Wilson to discuss these.
“Having sat for long hours on the Select Committee hearing submissions on the Bill I am convinced that there is a middle
way that will achieve our objective of creating an industrial relations environment based on fairness, flexibility, and
neutrality,” said Mr Brown.
“New Zealand First is looking forward to the meeting with the Hon Margaret Wilson next week to discuss a range of
solutions for the concerns we have raised.
“Our Party’s position has consistently been to amend the Employment Contracts Act and protect vulnerable workers.
“This was the position we put to National when in Government, it is the position we campaigned on, and it remains our
position today.
“It is essential for our country’s future that we create a climate that facilitates economic and employment growth. We
must appropriately amend this Bill!."
