Clayton Disturbed And Angry Over Anz’s Branch Closure In Bishopdale
Member of Parliament for Waimakariri, Clayton Cosgrove, today expressed his extreme concern over the ANZ’s decision to
close their branch in Bishopdale.
“I have received calls from angry constituents who demand to know why their branch has been closed,” Mr Cosgrove said.
Mr Cosgrove said “Many people who live in Bishopdale are older and prefer to do their banking face to face. They are
very weary of dealing with a recorded voice or machine. I am also worried that many of these people will not be able to
travel to the nearest branches in Papanui and Merivale. Getting around the city is not always easy for older people as
many do not have easy access to transport.”
“I have demanded a full explanation as to why the ANZ is closing their branch in Bishopdale. I have also written to the
ANZ and asked for an urgent meeting with their representatives,” Mr Cosgrove said.
“I accept the ANZ is a commercial organisation and as such has the right to open or close a branch wherever it likes,
but as a former business person myself, I also understand that to make a major decision like this, research is done to
determine the best option. Community groups and interested parties should be consulted and I would like to know who the
ANZ consulted over the Bishopdale Branch closure,” Mr Cosgrove said.
Mr Cosgrove hoped the ANZ would accept his request for an urgent meeting so he could express his concerns.
