“It’s imperative that Dr Michael Cullen take specific steps to restore business confidence in the Government and in the New Zealand economy,” Rodney Hide said today.
“Business is looking for a clear strategic vision from Dr Cullen. So far they haven’t had one.
“Dr Cullen should also listen to what business is telling the government about the Employment Relations Bill. The Bill as it stands is a disaster for a business. The government needs to listen to the concerns and act on them. The country can’t afford another “head-in-sand” approach like we had with the hiking of tax rates and the renationalisation of Accident Insurance.
“Dr Cullen needs to recognise that the key to economic success is sound economic policy. A business lolly scramble of taxpayers’ money is no substitute for a free market and low taxes.
“Dr Cullen also must make plain that Jim Anderton’s views and comments on economic policy in general and monetary policy in particular have no influence on the Government”, said Rodney Hide. ENDS
