Great policy Steve - but whose is it?
"The foster parent training scheme 'launched today' by Steve Maharey is a great idea - it's a pity for Labour they didn't think of it," Opposition Social Services spokesperson Bob Simcock said today.
Social Services Minister Steve Maharey has today launched a National Government programme to provide extra training for foster parents
"We announced in last year's Budget $1.5million (inc GST) over three years for specialist training for foster parents.
"It's the second time in as many days that Steve Maharey has tried to take credit for positive social programmes developed under National.
"We know he's struggling in the job as Minister - but getting a reputation as the copy-cat Minister won't help him at all.
"I am pleased that the foster parent training programme is underway.
"The funding is there to provide specialist training for the caregivers who look after some of our most difficult children. It is pleasing to see Child, Youth and Family Services getting together with the NZ Foster and Family Care Federation to deliver it."
