Cullen's tax cut musings don't stack up
The Finance Minister's musings he could cut company tax if Labour got back into power after 2002 have no credibility at all, Opposition Finance spokesperson Bill English said today.
"No-one seriously thinks Dr Cullen would cut company tax rates.
"He claims fiscal conditions don't allow him to cut taxes at present.
"That's just not true. If he can't do it in the next two years with the economy growing so strongly, he will never be able to do it.
"Dr Cullen wouldn't get his caucus and the Alliance to agree to cut company tax rates, when they have staked their political future on higher taxes.
"The Minister's comments have more to do with the fact he is perceived in and out of New Zealand as anti business - and he's trying to get some support.
"No-one will take Dr Cullen's comments seriously."
