Still No Action From Minister On Rodney Council

Published: Fri 24 Mar 2000 12:39 AM
Concern is being raised by ACT over the Minister of Local Government’s continued lack of leadership on the future of the Rodney District Council.
ACT Local Government Spokesman, Owen Jennings today said Sandra Lee should now stop pussy footing around and call for an immediate election in Rodney to restore confidence and democratic process.
“While the Minister dallies, the legal position of the Council remains uncertain. For a Government that has demonstrated itself to be trigger happy on intervening in other peoples lives and affairs, it seems strange and unfair that this Minister stands on the sideline unwilling or unable to know what to do. The people of Rodney deserve better.
“The residents of Rodney deserve democracy and they deserve it now,” said Owen Jennings.
