Goff gets the message
National is pleased that the Christchurch Creche families may receive funding for their legal representation at the Ministerial Inquiry into Mr Ellis' convictions, says Opposition Justice Spokesman Tony Ryall.
"Some of the families met with Mr Goff a few weeks ago. They came away with a clear impression that no assistance would be forthcoming in the event of an inquiry. That's why Mrs Shipley was approached to raise the issue publicly so as to get the Minister more attuned to public sentiment on this matter.
"These families have been through a police inquiry, a depositions hearing, a high court trial, and two court of appeal hearings. It is only right that a Minister who professes an eagerness to redress the balance against victims would be willing to fund the Creche families legal services," Mr Ryall said.
