Oil Companies ‘Scalping’ Motorists

Published: Wed 8 Mar 2000 11:37 AM
New Zealand First Energy Spokesperson, Peter Brown, today expressed outrage on behalf of motorists who are being ‘scalped’ by the antics of foreign owned oil companies ratcheting up petrol prices, yet again.
“There appears to be no doubt that the companies are in collusion and they are merely taking turns at being the bad guys in leading the charge to put up prices.
“The Government has the responsibility to act in the best interests of everyone and not permit New Zealanders to be fleeced by oil tycoons.
“The oil companies must be made accountable and publicly and transparently justify the increase of almost 25cents a litre in the price of petrol in the past few months,” concluded Mr Brown.
