Shipley congratulates Team NZ on stunning victory

Published: Thu 2 Mar 2000 04:30 PM
"I join with all New Zealanders in congratulating Team New Zealand on their wonderful feat in retaining the America's Cup.
"The fact that they have won so convincingly means that the America's Cup is bound to stay in New Zealand for a long time. Today's victory augurs well for a fantastic regatta in three years time.
"Russell Coutts, Dean Barker, Sir Peter Blake and all the team deserve every praise that will be heaped on them in the days and weeks ahead. They have done New Zealand proud once again.
"I also congratulate the Prada team for being such good competitors. They will no doubt take away happy memories of their time in New Zealand, despite not taking home the America's Cup."
Mrs Shipley also praised the organisers and the people of Auckland for helping making the Cup such a success.
"Auckland has done us proud again, and have helped make America's Cup 2000 the great event that it was," Mrs Shipley said
