Cullen sees sense over super tax
Opposition Finance spokesperson Bill English today welcomed the Finance Minister’s decision to back away from the superannuation tax.
“Dr Cullen indicated to the Finance and Expenditure select committee in response to questions that he had given away the idea of ring-fencing eight-cents-in-the-dollar for superannuation.
“The dedicated superannuation tax is not the best solution to our long term superannuation needs and it is clear from Dr Cullen that the Alliance and Greens share that view.
“It is good news that Dr Cullen is seeing sense over this proposal. He has clearly realised there is no support for his idea.
“The big question now is what’s next?
“New Zealanders need certainty over the future of superannuation, and we need a policy that is sustainable in the long term.
“National again urges Labour and the Alliance to think again and use this opportunity to re-activate a non-partisan approach to superannuation.”
