Home invasion victims thank the public
The young Chinese couple at the centre of a recent home invasion case has spoken out about their ordeal for the first
time through National List MP Pansy Wong.
A letter was delivered to Pansy Wong to read out at a public meeting held at Potter's Park by Chinese organisations
yesterday. The meeting was held to express support for the victims and sign a petition demanding that the Government
implement Norm Wither's referendum that was supported by 91.7% of voters at the last election.
The couple expressed their appreciation of Pansy Wong's offer of assistance and assured her that they were slowly
recovering from their ordeal. They need time and space to heal and re-adjust. Their messages for the public and the
media are threefold:
1. Please accept their appreciation of the offers of sympathy and support and flowers from media, community
associations and individuals. The couple is grateful but regretfully they are not able to thank all the good-wishers
individually. Please be re-assured that the gestures are deeply appreciated.
2. The couple has been working with the Police closely during the last week and knew that the Police were doing their
best to apprehend the offenders. They want the Police to resolve the case quickly.
3. They migrated to New Zealand a number of years ago and very much miss their overseas parents . This ordeal has
intensified their longing for their parents. They want to spare the elderly parents from the pain of knowing about this
tragic event. It is their wish that those who know of their identity refrain from spreading the news to the parents
because the latter could not cope with a tragedy of this magnitude.
Pansy Wong was touched by the courage that was particularly shown by the female victim. She pleads for the public to
respect the couple's wishes. Should anybody wish to express their sympathy or well wishes, she would be happy to convey
them.
