Support For Chinese Victims Of Home Invasion

Published: Mon 21 Feb 2000 03:28 PM
National List MP Pansy Wong says the Auckland Chinese community is in deep shock over the recent home invasion case involving a Chinese family, which resulted in the abduction and gang rape of one of the victims.
"Members of the Chinese community have contacted me to express their deep concern, anxiety and fear. They are appalled at the circumstances of this case.
"I have passed on the community's deepest concern to the Police and I know they are doing everything they can to resolve the case. I have told the Police that I am available to offer support and comfort to the victims.
"At the heart of National's law and order concerns is the victim, and that is why we passed tough home invasion legislation when in government.
"I call on the Chinese community and the public to support the Police in their efforts to bring about a swift resolution to this case. I know New Zealanders would join me in expressing our deepest sympathy to the victims and in our urge to have the offenders apprehended as quickly as possible," Mrs Wong said.
