ACT MP Penny Webster says there's concern among farmers that they will not have enough time to discuss the merger of dairy companies Kiwi and Dairy Group.
The merger must be completed before the enabling legislation lapses in 6 months time, and Mrs Webster says that may not be enough time for the 12,000 farmer-shareholders to be sufficiently informed on the deal.
"Farmer-shareholders are yet to get the financial details which they need to make an informed decision," Mrs Webster said. "The select committee was given firm assurances that adequate time would be provided for discussion, questioning and consideration.
"The decision should be made in the best long term interest of the dairy industry as a whole, but the timetable does not leave time for a full discussion to take place."
