Cullen goes it alone - Private sector advice lacking
"Michael Cullen is foolhardy to run his office without private sector tax advice" says National's Revenue spokesperson, Annabel Young MP.
"Throughout the campaign and now as Minister, Dr Cullen's statements show that he has no practical insights into the reality of day-to-day tax policy.
"His statements on possible tax policy changes are causing havoc amongst Kiwi businesses as they try to plan their activity around each tax policy that Cullen announces.
"You cannot set tax policy by media statement because of the uncertainty that this generates."
Ms Young said that Cullen would be saved from making some of his sillier statements if he had a tax advisor in his office who could give real-time advice about how taxpayers would react to his statements.
