1. TIMBERLANDS - Timberlands says it is pressing ahead with resource consents for Beech felling after it met with Government Ministers on Friday. The Government says it is taking legal advice and will not comment at present.
2. CHECHNYA - Russia says it will take measures to assist civilians who want to flee the war zone in Chechnya.
3. EARTHQUAKE - A strong earthquake hit the Philippines today. There are no reports of serious injuries.
4. CELEBRATIONS - Large Crowds are expected at an early Millennium and Christmas celebration in Hamilton.
4. SQUASH - A New Zealand woman has won the British squash open.
6. ANIMAL FIGHT - Hyenas fleeing lions have killed a woman and child in Africa.
