NEW CABINET LINEUP: The PM-Elect plans to announce the portfolios of her new ministers today or tomorrow. Deputy Leader Michael Cullen is expected to be responsible for ACC.
WATER QUALITY: A review by the Ministry of Health has found that water in hundreds of rural schools and hospitals is unsafe.
MAORI EDUCATION: A new report challenges perceptions that Maori are failing in all areas of schooling. The report finds that Maori pupils do just as well or better in technology, art and PE.
CHECHNYA: Russia has told civilians in Grozny that they have five days to evacuate the city – after the weekend the Russian’s say they will step up the attack on the Chechen capital.
PALESTINIAN PEACE PROCESS: Palestinians say they will no longer discuss a peace settlement with Israel unless they stop expanding settlements.
PROJECT K: A scheme established by Graham Dingle to help teenagers – Project K - is to expand and open a new base in the North Island.
