1. COALITION TALKS - Labour and Alliance leaders will meet today in Auckland to start the coalition formation after the election gave them the MPs to govern alone. It is expected there will not be an agreement along the lines of that between National and NZ First. Today's talks will be brief and will outline process and a timetable. The talks proper will begin in Wellington tomorrow.
2. ELECTION NEWS Jenny Shipley says the National party will use its time in Opposition to see if there are any lessons to be learnt.
3. ELECTION NEWS The Green party co-leader says they are to lay formal complaints about the behaviour of National Party scrutineers in the Coromandel.
4. ELECTION NEWS 74% of the votes have been counted and the counting will continue over the weekend. Labour has won the Wairarapa and all the Labour seats. Both referenda have received overwhelming yes votes.
5 ELECTION NEWS The electoral office is investigating the broadcast of a promotional interview on Sky while the ballots were still open.
6. IRELAND - A deal is being worked out in Northern Island to get the peace and power sharing process back on the road.
7. EARTHQUAKE - In Vanuatu aftershocks are still being felt after an earthquake caused widespread destruction on some islands.
8. SANTA - The odd range shower has not been enough to cancel Santa's parade in Auckland.
