1. FLOODS - Queenstown is still under water as have many other areas in Southland and Otago. There is a limited state of
emergency in Queenstown after lake Wakatipu hit highest levels in a century. One third of the business district is in
the water. Houses were evacuated and roads closed due to slips. It is expected to be up to 10 days before the water
returns to normal levels. Wanaka still has water up to thigh deep and the water will not recede for 12 hours. Sewage is
also seeping into the lake.
2. FLOODS - In Alexandra a political row is brewing over their third flood in five years. Locals blame silt build up
behind two dams which should have been cleared by Contact Energy, The dams were built by the Government. No one will
talk about liability.
3. RESCUE - A break in the weather allowed a trapped climber to be rescued. He was unharmed.
