1. CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES: It has been a super Sunday of campaigning with NZ First, National and Labour all launching their campaign.
National's launch was turned sour by aggressive hecklers from the Native Forest Action group. Mrs Shipley said it was a free country, but would like them to find their own audience. The PM talked about tax cuts, the Employment Contracts Act. She also had a swipe at promises being made by Labour and Alliance as needing higher taxes.
Labour launched their campaign in a friendlier atmosphere with supporters dancing in the aisles to a song penned for the campaign. Helen Clark blamed the country's problems on National, but did not get personal like Jenny Shipley. Labour's leader said they would be able to deliver on their promises.
NZ First's launch featured John Rowles singing the praises of Winston Peters. Mr Peters said his party was to restore hope and smiles to people's faces. He said he would never be sacked again by Jenny Shipley and said there would be no pre-election deals. His supporters are confident
Linda Clark says the three launches on the same day were part of the tic tac toe of politics. She says heckling will be a problem for National during the campaign and they will be protective of the PM. Clark says it will be a presidential style campaign by the leaders.
