BNZ: The BNZ increase in the floating mortgage rate by .25% to 6.75% is likely to trigger more increases across the
banking board. The rise is due to the falling Kiwi dollar.
ARC: The Auckland Regional Council is reviewing Stagecoach contracts as more strikes cripple the city. It is the fourth
strike in a month. The ARC say they are reviewing their contracts with Stagecoach as they are failing to provide
reliable public transport.
BOUMAU: Three men have pleaded guilty to manslaughter during a Reparoa home invasion in which Beverly Boumau was killed.
One man has already pleaded guilty of murder.
LABOUR: Labour is promising to spend an extra $825 million in health over the next three years if it becomes the
government. The money is coming from a tax on top income earners.
DEFENCE: A defence seminar has heard that defence exports have increased by 50% over the last year, making the area a
growing export business.
PAKISTAN: A final decision on Pakistan’s standing within the Commonwealth will be made next month. Pakistan has been
suspended.
WOOL: The chairman of the Wool Board said it would be irresponsible for growers to vote no confidence in the annual
meeting this afternoon.
