PAY RISE: Embattled bosses of the police and the IRD received pay rises in the year to June. IRD Commissioner Graham Holland received a 16 per cent rise from between $250,000 - $260,000 to between $280,000 - $290,000. Police Commissioner Peter Doone has risen around the same amount to around the same figure.
YOUNG MEN: Winston Peters wants to introduce compulsory military service for all 18 year old men.
BNZ: The BNZ has increased its floating home mortgage rate by .25 per cent to 6.75 per cent due to the falling Kiwi dollar.
RECORD: A 14 year old schoolgirl has become the youngest person to climb Mt Cook.
YELLOW PAGES: There have been complaints over a glossy full page ad – in blue – advertising a strip bar in Wellington’s yellow pages.

ELECTION: The election is going to depend largely on the battle between the two woman leaders according to the president of the Labour Party Bob Harvey.
