MEDICINE: The body that monitors medicines in New Zealand is considering withdrawing the use of antibiotics to promote growth in pork and poultry as growing antibiotic resistance grows among humans.
MINISTERS: Government Ministers are set to give Kiwi troops a pay rise. The announcement is to be made this afternoon.
INDONESIA: Indonesia has accused the UN force in East Timor of killing an Indonesian troop. The Australian contingent concerned say they merely returned fire after being shot at by militia.
SHIP: The dutch cargo vessel with Kiwi military equipment is nearing Darwin and will dock there tomorrow afternoon.
MURDER: The four men of murdering Reparoa woman Beverly Bouma have pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated robbery but deny murdering her.
CHECHNYA: The president of Chechnya has put forward a plan to halt the war in the area. The Russians are likely to reject it and step up their war efforts.
WEATHER: Poor weather conditions are hampering efforts to install an early warning system on a natural dam on the West Coast. It is stable but heavy rain forecast for the area may change that.
LABOUR: Labour is to appoint a Minister of Rural Affairs as part of a new government, as part of it’s new rural policy.
THREATENING TO KILL: The Wanganui man charged with threatening to kill his step daughters murderer has elected trial by jury.
PORTUGAL: Portugal’s Prime Minister has said his party has fallen just short of a majority in the country’s general election.
MURDER: The trial of a Napier man charged with attempting to kill a teenager and her elderly neigbour has begun in the Napier High Court. The man has denied attempting to murder them.
VIC UNIVERSITY: Victoria University staff have just walked off the job and are picketing outside the Hunter Building.
HOUSING NZ: A trial is under way for the man who went on a rent strike earlier in the year. His house was damaged when Housing NZ evicted him and police broke into the barricaded house.
