BREAD RISING: Biggest Baker says petrol prices and weak dollar has made them raise the cost of bread by 5 cents a loaf. Kiwi has dropped 30% against the yen in recent months.
MISSILE TEST: US has successfully tested a missile defence system which can shoot down ICBMs. Marshall Islands launch led to explosion over the Pacific. Pentagon officials say the test was successful but some doubts about whether the programme is affordable.
TONGUE BITE: A man whose tongue was biten off in a domestic incident is recovering in hospital. The man was transferred to Waikato Hospital to have his tongue sewn back on.
GREEN POLICY LAUNCH: Green conservation policy launch uses stuffed Kiwi as a symbol. "The Kiwi is stuffed unless we do something", Jeanette Fitzsimmons. Greens calling for end to logging of indigenous forests and is concerned about Hector's Dolphin. Labour says it can work with the Greens. But Greens need to win Coromandle for it to mean anything.
