EAST TIMOR: ABC is reporting that Australian troops have dispersed - without gunfire - a group of gathering militia outside of Dili as surly Indonesian troops leave and hand over to peace keepers.
EAST TIMOR: Black smoke blots the skylight. Troops burn their remaining buildings as they leave. Prospects of the remaining - joyful people - not good in a scorched earth.
PETROL PRICES: Shell announce a further three cent price rise in 91 and 96 octane petrol.
ELECTION CAMPAIGN: Campaigning has started for the general election. National wants to bed in the main issues, tax, industrial relations and trade. Labour doesn't and has three different issues. Pete Hodgson clip. ACT's campaign strategist Nick Stravs arrives. Winston has never stopped campaigning. Nine weeks to go - looks like a long time for the PM.
