TIMOR: Australian, British and Kiwi troops landed in Dili this morning and secured the airport. The Indonesian military
are cooperating.
KIWI CONTRIBUTION: An undisclosed number of Kiwi SAS troops were among the first to land today and more are on the way.
Two C130 Hercules ran trips between Darwin and Dili, unloading troops and equipment.
FAREWELL: Troops were farewelled today at the Ohakea airforce base by the Prime Minister and friends and family.
POLL: Jenny Shipley has done much better than expected after APEC. A CM Research poll has shown 58% think she is a
capable leader up 14, and 46% think she is good in a crisis up 10. 77% say she did well at APEC and 38% think she is
more capable after her leadership at APEC. In the party stakes National is on 33% up one, Labour is on 39% down one, the
Alliance is on 6 down one, NZ First static on seven and ACT also on seven. The Greens were just below 3%.
ANSETT: The lockout at Ansett continues with passengers’ patience running out. The industrial action has already cost
Ansett $3 million and the price is set to soar. Air New Zealand however are thriving.
