RISKY MISSION: Prime Minister Jenny Shipley said the UN mission to East Timor would be the riskiest mission in recent
years.
ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION: A man tried to abduct a seven year old Porirua girl on her way to school yesterday, just after
8.30am. The man was wearing a white shirt, bootleg pants and black gumboots. He was possibly balding but with long hair
at the back, with white stubble on his chin. He was driving a dirty blue vehicle. Police are concerned about
similarities to an incident a fortnight ago outside a school in Waitangirua. Police are also checking links to three
other recent incidents in Karori, Northland and Alicetown.
TREATY OFF: Indonesia has announced it was breaking off a security treaty with Australia which has harshly criticised
Indonesia for its handling of the East Timor crisis.
